And the winners are…

Children all over the state got a chance to vote for their favorite books from the Red Clover and Dorothy Canfield Fisher book lists. These student-choice book programs promote reading and discussions of some of the very best in children’s literature while offering readers a wonderful array of literature.

This year the Red Clover Book Award goes to “Shh! We have a Plan” by Chris Haughton. This is the story of four friends on a quiet adventure in the woods looking to trap a beautiful bird. Plans to capture the bird repeatedly fail until the smallest of the friends has a much better idea. The story is simple and the illustrations are bold making it a wonderful book to read and read again.

The winner of the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award goes to “El Deafo” by Cece Bell. This graphic novel and autobiography tells the story of the author’s loss of hearing at a young age and her path to realizing that “Our differences are our superpowers."

A special thanks to the Waitsfield PTA who each year generously donates all the books for each of these wonderful book programs.
