Shh! We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton is one of the latest books to come into our library. But don't let the title fool you, this story will not stay quiet for very long. The title page puts this book in motion showing us four characters setting off on what appears to be some kind of hunt (three of the characters are carrying nets). A turn of the page quickly reveals a brightly colored bird amidst the cool dark colors of night. The three characters with nets are intent on capturing this beautiful bird, while the fourth and smallest of the group seems to simply want to befriend it. The text is spare, repetitive, and entertaining. Haughton's digital illustrations enhance the pacing and mood of this wonderful book. The beautiful full page spreads give rise to high drama and offer readers the chance to think about what might be coming next. This book is perfect for a raucous read-a-loud with a room full of friends or a quiet couch moment with just a few.
